Freddy lives in Dubai (UAE) with his wife and three children. Apart from his native French, he is also fluent in English and Spanish, and speaks a little Arabic, Chinese and the Malian dialect Bambara.

An avid supporter of many humanitarian causes, Freddy established the Kanouté Foundation to promote causes close to his heart. The charity, which also has branches Spain and Mali, opened its flagship project the Sakina Children's Village (Mali) in 2010.
